The History of Troop 24 Minimize

Troop 24, sponsored by the Doylestown Presbyterian Church, was formed in July 1941. Over the years, the troop has had 117 Eagle Scouts and 19 Scoutmasters.

June 3, 2009 was our 68th anniversary.

In the late 40s or early 50s it was the fashion to have a troop nickname. The name "Pioneers" was adopted and the covered wagon was used for the troop flag at national and district jamborees. It's interesting to speculate that the name Pioneers was probably selected because the troop enjoyed and pursued the outdoors and the camping experience. Troop 24 still has the reputation for being a very active camping troop with monthly campouts, AT hikes, and venture outings. We should take the time to reflect back to the scouts of the 40's and 50's and understand that American History and stories about the Wild West, Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, Lewis and Clark, and others were sources of pride and entertainment.

To be a Pioneer was to be someone that lead the way, forged new trails, and was prepared to tame the wilderness. There is much of the pioneering spirit left in scouting. Our predecessors picked a good troop nickname.
